Custom Upholstery

At the heart of Summerland Furniture & Design is custom reupholstery. We are passionate about rescuing quality furniture and giving it decades more life. Most pieces are worth re-doing simply by virtue of it being sentimental. It seems most of us have a chair inherited from a loved one that has a special place in our hearts. Let’s talk about how we can bring your piece to life in a way that reflects you and your personality.

How It Works

01. Fill out our contact page and let us know what piece or pieces you would like a quote on.

02. We will reply to your email asking you to attach a few pics of your piece(s).

03. Once we see what we need to see, we will ask a few more clarifying questions. For example, do you want it to be re-done exactly as it was before or would you like to make any style changes?

04. If you do not have fabric already, we have a large library of fabric swatches and can walk you through choosing the perfect fabric.

05. We will then ask about foam preferences. Again, we will walk you through this process as it’s most likely something most people haven’t thought too much about.

06. We will send you an estimate with the details we talked about and from there you can accept or decline the estimate.

07. If you accept the estimate, you will sign a contract outlining everything we talked about to secure your spot on the calendar.

Interior Design

Interior design became a natural extension of Summerland’s professional offerings early on. Though not as well documented as the furniture portfolio, we have helped people and businesses implement full-scale design from a napkin sketch to completion. We find immense fulfillment in getting to know our clients, asking the right questions and anticipating challenges that each design project presents. We pride ourselves on communicating well so that our projects remain positive and enjoyable. If you have one room you’d like help with or an entire remodel, reach out to us to start the conversation.

Frequently Asked QUESTIONS

  • It depends! This is why we like to see pics of your project and understand your vision first.

  • Yes! We have a partnership with greehousefabrics. You can preview on their website or check out sample books in person from our library.

  • Most older furniture was made very solidly and designed in a way to be reupholstered. Additionally, if it means something to you, then it’s worth it. Sentimentality counts!

  • Upholstery workshops are a great way to get your hands dirty and see if it’s something you’d like to pursue. In the future we would love to provide workshops. Until then, contact the National Upholstery Association to see if there are workshops near you.

  • Again, this depends, but generally it’s not. Having your piece reupholstered is going to be value-priced. This means you are paying for skilled expertise, custom choice of fabrics and high quality materials like high density foam and cotton batting. It does not compare with cheap, mass-produced furniture.

  • Generally speaking, we like to have a piece received and finished in about 4 weeks. This ensures that we have enough time to give your piece skilled attention while accounting for any unforeseen challenges. Much like remodeling a house, we don’t know what we’ll find once we tear into it.
