Meet the Sayers
Nia Sayers took her first upholstery course in the fall of 2003 at the local tech college. Initially taken to get out of the house once a week when her kids were babies, she had no idea it would literally alter the course of her life. By 2005, after doing projects for several friends and family, she got her official business license and Summerland was born. Nearly two decades, over a thousand projects and countless learning curves later, she is still as passionate about rescuing quality furniture as ever. Along the way she has put her natural eye for design to work professionally as an interior design consultant and buyer for a high end furniture store. The variety and challenge of whole home designs paired with her expertise on the furniture that fills those homes makes her a trusted design professional.

Lead Upholsterer and Designer
Niaβs husband, Scott, is also a design professional who often collaborates on Summerland projects. Proficient in SketchUp, his three decades-long graphic design career helps deliver ideas to clients. He is also a salvage building material magnet which he transforms into stunning, high-end features for large-scale stage sets as well as for commercial and residential projects. Together, the Sayers have created an artistic and truly unique compound at their Bellingham home. Their salvage material projects are documented at their joint venture Salvaged By Design.
